Headcanon: Sailor V/Venus's Hair in Crystal
Something stood out when I first saw Crewman Venus's character design in Sailor Moon Crystal: Her hair had a center parting that isn't present in the manga and '90s anime designs of Sailor Venus. Merely Minako's hair doesn't have the departing; it is only when she transforms into Sailor Venus that the parting appears.
Like many Sailor Moon fans, I wasn't too happy about the change, but I started thinking: Is in that location a specific reason why Minako is magically given a centre parting when she transforms into Sailor Venus in Sailor Moon Crystal?
In the manga, Naoko used dissimilar methods to evidence Crewman Venus'southward tiara precious stone when she was illustrating regular black and white images and when she was illustrating the colour images we see in the fine art books.
In black and white manga images, Naoko merely drew Minako's hair and tiara over each other. Since she used simple strokes to depict Minako's bangs, the tiara could hands be seen through the pilus. (Scans from MissDream.org)
But in the colour images, it was a dissimilar story. Here, Naoko actually separates Minako's bangs to display her tiara precious stone, just without giving Minako a hair parting. (Scans from MangaStyle.cyberspace)
It's the same in the '90s anime as the color manga images: Sailor Venus's hair just separates to brandish her tiara gem.
It seemed to me that while all the other girls take hair partings which make their tiara gems more than obvious, Minako does not. My guess was that Sailor Venus was given a heart departing in order to evidence off her tiara precious stone too.
Only if we wait at Sailor Pluto's Crystal graphic symbol design, nosotros see that my theory didn't quite agree: Sailor Pluto has no apparent hair parting in Crystal. Instead, her pilus separates to show her tiara gem. So why did Sakou Yukie, Sailor Moon Crystal's grapheme designer, give Crewman Venus a centre parting?
The higher up image is from when Minako reveals herself to the other girls, but just before that, nosotros get a close upwardly of her forehead:
The focus here is on the crescent moon symbol, but note the bangs as well. Even though the hair has a center departing, it actually looks a little dissimilar from the other images of Sailor Five/Venus'south pilus in Crystal. Instead, the slight curve in the bangs actually makes them expect more like to Usagi's bangs:
Hither's the moment when Usagi breaks the seal on her past-life memories. I'thou sure we're all familiar with Usagi's eye parting by now. I think that the above image of Crewman V's brow was deliberately made to look like Princess Tranquillity'south brow, and then as to create strong associations between Minako and the Princess.
Therefore, I headcanon that the heart parting that Minako gets afterwards she transforms is meant equally a visual cue reminding united states of her office as decoy to Princess Quiet. To me, information technology also acts as a reminder of Minako'south role as leader of the Four Guardians, likewise as her power to switch between her dual identities as Aino Minako and Sailor Venus.
